Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, has expressed her intention to run for the presidency of Russia once current leader Vladimir Putin leaves office. Navalnaya has also made controversial statements calling for Putin to be imprisoned in a Russian jail under the same conditions as her late husband.
In a recent interview, Yulia Navalnaya said: "I plan to run for the presidency after Putin is gone because I am convinced that we can build a different country." Her husband, Alexei Navalny, was a well-known critic of the Kremlin who was poisoned in August 2020 and died in February 2021 after being arrested for alleged parole violations.
Navalnaya's stance reflects the determination to continue her husband's political fight and challenge the current Russian government. Despite the difficulties and persecutions faced by the opposition in Russia, Yulia Navalnaya shows her willingness to actively participate in the country's democratic process once the appropriate conditions are established.
