Russian authorities are implementing various strategies to address the population crisis and stimulate demographic growth. They explain that people need to maintain relationships to have children, while the consumption of pornography acts as a "substitute" for romantic relationships.
Russian parliamentarian Tatiana Butskaya proposed that people without children should not have access to websites with pornographic content. "We need to think about what can be done. Perhaps these sites should only be for those who have children," she declared during the debate on the demographic crisis.
This issue is linked to both the uncertainty caused by the war and the so-called "demographic hole." This phenomenon is related to women born in the 1990s reaching childbearing age, a period that also saw a sharp decline in birth rates.
In this context, the Russian government is promoting various programs to encourage large families and has passed a law prohibiting the promotion of the childfree ideology, a movement that defends a woman's right not to have children.
