A specialist in nasal, throat, and ear disorders, Dr. Svyatlana Nozdnytska warned about the potential dangers of improper use of headphones during busy sports, swimming, or bathing.
"Studies have shown that the use of headphones increases the number of bacteria in the ear canal by 11 times. Everyone has bacteria in their ears, and in most cases, they do not cause problems. However, if the number of bacteria increases or new ones appear, for example, when passing headphones from one person to another for listening to music together, it can lead to inflammation inside the ear," the doctor noted.
The specialist emphasized that headphones create heat and moisture, creating an ideal environment for the growth of bacteria and fungi, which can lead to ear infections and the development of serious disorders. She recommended that users of headphones periodically clean and disinfect them with a spirit not less than once a week, as well as regularly remove accumulated wax.
