The eruption of the Chikurachki volcano on Kamchatka, in the Russian Far East, ejected ash to a height of several kilometers above sea level, according to the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The service reported that the 3,300-meter-high volcano released a plume of ash that reached 9,000 meters above sea level. Volcanic ash cloud extended 110 kilometers to the west of the volcano. Authorities have issued a yellow aviation alert for the area near the volcano.
