Russia and US Discuss Plan to Resolve Ukrainian Crisis

MOSCOW, Dec. 3, 2025 (NA/Xinhua) -- There is as yet no concrete plan for engagement to solve the Ukraine crisis. This was stated, as cited by TASS, by Russian Presidential Adviser Yuri Ushakov following the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Steve Witkoff, a special envoy of the U.S. president, which lasted five hours. The meeting, held in the Kremlin, touched upon the frozen talks for a ceasefire in Ukraine amid an escalation of attacks. According to a post on social media by Russia's top economic envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, the meeting was "productive." Putin's adviser, Yuri Ushakov, also described it as "constructive, very useful and informative." He confirmed that they discussed in the Kremlin "several variants of the plan proposed by the U.S. president, Donald Trump, for Ukraine, which is criticized by European leaders due to the concessions that Kyiv would have to make to Moscow." "Greater joint work." "We had the opportunity to thoroughly debate the prospects for greater joint work to achieve a peaceful and lasting solution to the Ukrainian crisis," he stated in remarks to the press picked up by TASS. He acknowledged that there are as yet no commitments to the plan, because "some of the proposed details are acceptable to Russia, but others are not." They clarified, however, that the essence of the plan was discussed, not the specific formulations. And that Putin conveyed "friendly greetings" to Trump, while assessing the destructive actions of the Europeans. Ushakov assured that contacts with the United States will continue and that both countries have not distanced themselves from their stance on the territorial issue. Prior to the meeting, Putin had held a press conference to accuse European countries of obstructing the efforts driven by the Trump Administration to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine, in the context of the Russian invasion launched in February 2022.
