Modi and Xi Meet to Discuss Peace in Asia

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expressed the importance of the relationship between India and China for global peace and stability. Following the confirmation of military de-escalation in the border areas of both Asian powers, this measure is expected to be implemented in the coming months.

In a bilateral meeting in Kazan, Russia, during the BRICS group summit, Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the need to maintain peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control between the two countries. This meeting marks the first direct encounter between the leaders since the clash between Indian and Chinese troops in 2020.

Modi emphasized the importance of mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity as the foundation of relations between India and China. The agreement reached will allow Indian soldiers to return to pre-incident border patrols in Ladakh, in the Himalayas.

The historical dispute between India and China over certain regions of the Himalayas, such as Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh, remains a contentious issue. Modi urged Xi to ensure that differences over boundaries do not disrupt peace at the borders. Both countries are committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region, recognizing the importance of the bilateral relationship for their peoples and the world.
