Kremlin warns of irreparable consequences of attack on Bushehr

The Kremlin warns that any U.S. or Israeli strike on Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant could lead to catastrophic consequences. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted the extreme danger of such attacks, noting Russia is in constant contact with the IAEA and Washington on this issue.

The Kremlin warned on Monday that any attack by the U.S. or Israel against Iranian nuclear facilities, such as the Bushehr nuclear power plant, built by Russian engineers, could have "irreparable consequences." "We consider that attacks against nuclear facilities are potentially very dangerous and can have consequences, perhaps even irreparable," said Dmitry Peskov, presidential press secretary, at his daily telephone press conference. He emphasized that in this regard, Russia is in "permanent contact" with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), whose director Rafael Grossi visited the country last week, and also with the United States. Then, Grossi met with the head of Russia's atomic agency Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, who has repeatedly warned about attacks on Bushehr. "Of course, this represents a very great threat to security if this trend continues," the spokesman noted. Peskov highlighted that "the corresponding signals are also sent to the U.S. side" and added that Russia maintains a "very responsible" position by repeatedly expressing its "concern." Last week, Rosatom announced it would evacuate almost all of its personnel from Bushehr, located in southern Iran, following the attack on its facilities. One of the technical buildings of Bushehr, located on Iran's coast of the Persian Gulf, was hit by a projectile last Wednesday. Until then, the Bushehr nuclear power plant had not yet been attacked, unlike the uranium enrichment plants in Natanz and Isfahan. Grossi insisted at the beginning of this month that the IAEA has never had evidence that Iran had a structured plan to build an atomic bomb. The United States and Israel have justified their attacks, in part, by arguing that Tehran is trying to manufacture atomic weapons, which is denied by the Islamic republic. Photo EFE.
