Lavrov urges US to abandon Cuba blockade plans

Russia has called on the United States to refrain from imposing a military blockade on Cuba. This was stated on Wednesday by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla. 'Along with the vast majority of the international community, we urge the United States to act sensibly, take a responsible position, and abandon plans for a naval blockade,' stated Lavrov. The Russian official added that Moscow rejects accusations that its cooperation with Cuba is directed against Washington and that all disputes between Washington and Havana must be resolved through dialogue. 'We will continue to support Cuba and the Cuban people in defending the country's sovereignty and security,' stated Lavrov, as reported by the Argentine News Agency. He also added that Russia condemns U.S. legislation aimed at Cuba, which is supposedly based on the false claim that Cuba poses a threat to the United States.
