The Federal Security Service (SFS) of Russia has reported the detention of four women accused of planning terrorist attacks against high-ranking Russian military officials and energy facilities. According to the statement issued by the agency on Friday, the women were working as agents for Ukrainian special services and were arrested in the cities of Sevastopol, Voronezh, and Rostov-on-Don.

The accused were recruited by Ukraine with the aim of committing acts of sabotage and terrorism. The SFS claimed to have thwarted the activities of these agents, who also received training in Ukrainian territory in the use of firearms, mines, explosives, and drones.

The agency opened criminal cases against the women for terrorism-related offenses, with a report from the Xinhua news agency confirming that the detainees have confessed their involvement in the events and could face sentences of up to 30 years in prison.
