Russia welcomes the decision of the new US administration to close the US Agency for International Development (USAID), considering this a step in the right direction. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov noted that this decision is practically recognition of the fact that USAID finances actions that contradict the norms of international law.
"We certainly cannot fail to notice that this structure has long been actively financed and collaborated, including in the framework of what can be called the completion of anti-state or foreign interests of Russian actors," Ryabkov noted.
The USA announced the closure of USAID as a result of a revision of its foreign policy and priorities. The decision to close the agency was made taking into account its actions, which could provoke counterproductive consequences for international security.
