Joint cracking sounds are common and usually harmless. However, if accompanied by pain or inflammation, it's advisable to seek medical attention to discern the underlying cause.

Understanding Joint Noises: When to Consult a Doctor

The sounds of creaking that you hear in the joints of the hands or feet during the performance of certain movements may raise questions about their nature and the extent of their association with specific health conditions. In one of the medical programs, Dr. Tatyana Shabovalin, a medical scientist, explained these phenomena. She indicated that the sound of creaking is usually the result of the explosion of gas bubbles, primarily carbon dioxide, in the joint fluid, and this sound may not be accompanied by pain.

She also confirmed that in the case of a sharp pain associated with the creaking, or if this condition recurs with movement persistently, it is advisable to consult a doctor to determine the cause of the symptoms. On her part, Dr. Natalia Stepanova, a specialist in rheumatology, clarified that the synovial fluid in the joints contains gases that can move and explode during movement, causing the sound of creaking. She emphasized the importance of maintaining joint health and consulting a doctor if any symptoms such as pain or swelling appear.

In general, it is recommended to avoid excessive strain on the joints and to prevent injuries that could cause significant inflammation. It is also advised to follow a balanced dietary regimen that includes the necessary nutrients for joint health, with the goal of maintaining joint health overall.
