Russian customs officials in the port of St. Petersburg prevented an attempt to smuggle a rare meteorite weighing over 2.5 tons. The estimated value of the meteorite is about 323 million Russian rubles, equivalent to $4.19 million. The meteorite was discovered during a customs inspection of a maritime shipping container using scanning equipment. According to preliminary information, the smugglers tried to obscure the true nature of the stone by claiming it was a 'sculpture' intended for garden decoration.
