Worker Refuses to Return $87,000 Sent by Mistake

A Russian factory worker, Vladimir Rigashov, faced an unexpected issue: due to a technical glitch, a sum of $87,000, intended for the salaries of 34 employees at a different branch, was accidentally transferred to his bank account. His joy from the sudden windfall was short-lived, as the company's accounting department demanded the money back, accusing him of conspiracy and economic fraud. Although the accusations were quickly dropped due to lack of evidence, the company filed a lawsuit and froze Rigashov's accounts. He argues that the funds were credited as 'salary' and believes he is entitled to them. Despite lower and appellate courts siding with the employer, Rigashov has filed a cassation appeal with the Supreme Court, which has been accepted for review. He claims the company began making threats against him, and he used some of the money to buy a new car and move with his family to another city. 'I believe I am entitled to this money,' he stated. Thus, the legal battle over the return of $87,000 is far from over.
