Putin Responds to Guterres at BRICS Meeting

Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to the statements of UN Secretary General António Guterres during the BRICS group meeting. Putin pointed out that unfortunately, separations, scandals, and division of property often occur in families. With a touch of humor, he added that sometimes even things end in fights.

Guterres had advocated for peace in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, calling for an immediate ceasefire, as well as in Ukraine, urging a fair solution in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

In his intervention, Guterres mentioned the challenges posed at the Summit for the Future in areas such as finance, climate change, technology, and peace, highlighting the importance of strengthening multilateralism to achieve global development and security. He emphasized the need to live as one big family and pointed out that BRICS seeks to create a favorable atmosphere in the common home by turning words into concrete actions.

Additionally, the importance of international cooperation was stressed, recognizing that the current financial system does not provide enough assistance to vulnerable countries. The urgency to reform this global architecture was recalled, and the commitment to limit the increase in global temperatures to 1.5 degrees was reaffirmed, demanding emissions reductions and equal access to technology.
