Putin calls for a speedy peace settlement in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin called for achieving a peaceful settlement in Ukraine as soon as possible, for which he proposed to resume the debate on creating a new global security architecture that will safeguard the interests of the entire world. During a ceremony at the Kremlin, broadcast live on television, Putin called to «consolidate the conditions that allow for achieving, as soon as possible, a peaceful settlement for the conflict in Ukraine». He added that, within the framework of the debate on this new architecture, Russia has put forward «variants and rational decisions that could satisfy everyone in America, Europe and Asia, all over the world». «Our country aspires to a lasting and solid peace that reliably guarantees the security of each and everyone,» Putin emphasized. However, he noted that not everyone, including Kyiv and the capitals supporting it, is ready for this. As long as other countries do not understand this need, Putin assured that Russia will continue to «pursue its goals,» referring to the war in Ukraine. Putin recalled that the crisis in Ukraine is a consequence of the disregard for many years of Russia's legitimate interests and the non-fulfillment of the «public promise» by Western powers not to expand NATO to the East. The Kremlin did not confirm today the imminent arrival in Moscow — which was reported by the international press — of White House envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to discuss U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan for Ukraine.
