Three-Day Ceasefire in Ukraine Declared by Putin

A three-day ceasefire in Ukraine announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin has come into effect. Ukraine has rejected the unilateral initiative, citing security concerns for foreign leaders visiting Moscow. The ceasefire coincides with celebrations for the victory over Nazi Germany. Putin insists the truce aims for humanitarian reasons, while Ukraine calls it a propaganda maneuver.

Three-Day Ceasefire in Ukraine Declared by Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a three-day ceasefire in Ukraine that began at midnight, although Kiev has not joined this unilateral initiative. This ceasefire will last until midnight of May 10 to 11, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the Red Army's victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

Dmitry Peskov, the presidential spokesperson, confirmed that Putin's initiative remains in effect. The Russian president made this decision due to the presence of several foreign leaders in Moscow for the anniversary celebration.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected the ceasefire proposed by Putin and expressed concern for the safety of the foreign leaders attending Moscow. Putin justified this ceasefire for humanitarian reasons and called on Kiev to follow his lead.

The Kremlin condemned the recent drone attacks by the Ukrainian army in several Russian regions, including Moscow, which have affected airports and flights in the area. Peskov noted that the Kiev regime shows a propensity for terrorist actions.

The Russian Armed Forces respond to any provocation during the ceasefire, implementing measures to ensure that the Victory celebrations proceed peacefully. Despite some initial criticisms, U.S. President Donald Trump supported Putin's initiative.

The Ukrainian president and his foreign minister consider the three-day ceasefire a propaganda maneuver and are calling for a lasting ceasefire. Russian authorities accuse Zelensky of threatening foreign leaders and betraying the memory of Ukrainian veterans who fought against the Nazis.
