During their first bilateral meeting in Kazan, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on Chinese President Xi Jinping to prioritize peace and stability between their nations, following recent military de-escalation efforts along their border.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, met with the President of China, Xi Jinping, in the Russian city of Kazan during the BRICS summit. In this meeting, Modi urged for maintaining peace and stability between the two nations following the confrontation between their troops in 2020.

Modi highlighted the importance of the India-China relationship not only for their respective people but also for global peace, stability, and progress. Both leaders agreed that peace along the Line of Actual Control must be a priority and that mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity are fundamental in the relations between the two countries.

The agreement reached between India and China envisions a military de-escalation in border areas in the coming months. Modi emphasized the importance of not allowing differences in boundary-related issues to disrupt peace and tranquility at the borders.

The historical dispute between India and China over regions such as Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh in the Himalayas has been a source of tension between the two nations. The meeting between Modi and Xi Jinping aimed to lay the groundwork for ongoing and constructive dialogue that contributes to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
