Buenos Aires, December 22 (NA) — Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to talk with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, as long as there is a political will from both sides, stated Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to the RIA Novosti agency, as reported by the Argentine News Agency. Peskov noted that Macron recently expressed his intention to resume dialogue, and Putin himself, during his traditional Friday Q&A with the public, said he hoped to speak with the French president again. If this willingness is mutual, “Macron’s statement can be considered positive,” the spokesman said. The French leader had stated after the last European Union summit in Brussels that Europe must be prepared to dialogue with Russia if current efforts do not achieve lasting peace in Ukraine, and he maintained that talks with Putin would be “necessary and useful.” To this end, Macron suggested that the EU should agree on a common position beforehand before opening a new diplomatic channel. The last contact between the two leaders took place on July 1st, in a telephone conversation focused on potential solutions to the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.
Putin Ready to Talk with Macron if There is Political Will
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Vladimir Putin is ready to resume talks with Emmanuel Macron. He stated that this is possible only if there is mutual willingness from both sides. Macron had previously declared the need for dialogue with Russia to achieve peace in Ukraine.
