Russia Identifies Site for Lunar Base Construction

Russia has identified a promising site on the lunar surface for the potential construction of a lunar base, which will be analyzed in depth by a robotic explorer, Russia's state space corporation Roscosmos announced on Tuesday. The announcement was made by Denis Kutovoy, Deputy Head of the Space Systems Department at Roscosmos, who detailed that the lunar explorer will operate in the selected area to conduct soil studies and assess its feasibility for a future permanent installation. Robotic Exploration and Long-Term Goals According to Kutovoy, the Russian space agency is currently developing the experimental groundwork to define the long-term strategic goals related to human expansion into space. This initiative is part of the Luna-Glob program, led by Roscosmos, which initially aims to establish a fully robotic lunar base as a precursor to the development of crewed lunar missions. The agency highlighted that these advancements will allow for the accumulation of key information about the conditions of the natural satellite, especially regarding resources, terrain stability, and possibilities for human habitation.
