Lavrov: Russia awaits US Ukraine peace plan

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia expects the United States to provide it with a version of the plan, which Moscow considers temporary, after Washington agrees on it with Europe and Ukraine.

Lavrov added that "Russia will not be satisfied if the 'text and spirit' of the agreements reached by the Russian and US presidents at their meeting in Alaska are erased from the Ukraine peace plan," according to Bloomberg agency.

Lavrov said that the United States has not yet officially handed over the original 28-point plan to Russia.

Earlier on Tuesday, a US official stated that US Army Minister Dan Driscoll met with Russian officials for several hours on Tuesday.

Driscoll, who joined the US negotiating team less than two weeks ago, is leading the final stage of talks on a potential peace plan with Russia.

The US official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive negotiations, stated that the Ukrainians were aware of the meeting.

The official refused to provide details on the expected duration of the negotiations or the topics being discussed, but noted that all sides expressed a desire to reach an agreement to end the fighting as soon as possible.
