Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Europe «undermines all peace-making efforts and refuses direct contacts with Moscow». According to Lavrov, civilized countries must adhere to common sense, while others impose new sanctions that backfire on their own economies. Lavrov also added that former US President Donald Trump had always called for dialogue with Russia, sought to understand Russia's position on Ukraine, and «demonstrated a commitment to finding a sustainable peaceful solution». In an interview published late on Wednesday evening, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed hope that Washington will not take steps that could escalate the conflict in Ukraine. He also stated that they are openly preparing for a major new European war against Russia.
