Russia announced on Saturday the return of Olishnya, a previously occupied settlement that until now has been under the control of the Ukrainian army, at the Russian-Ukrainian border.

The transfer of control of the settlement was reported by the Russian side. Olishnya is located in an area that remains one of the few uncontrolled by Kyiv along the border between Russia and Ukraine.

"The operation to return Olishnya has been successfully completed. From this moment, the settlement is under the control of the Russian armed forces," announced a representative of the Russian Federation.

The occupied peninsula of Crimea has become a contentious region since Russia's 'annexation' in 2014. Kyiv does not recognize such 'annexation' and calls Crimea its currently occupied territory.
