On Thursday, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the plans of the European Union to increase military expenditures represent a step that could lead to war. The statement notes that Russia perceives these actions as a potential threat to its security.
According to Russian diplomats, such steps stimulate the buildup of the military potential of the EU countries and call for confrontation. They also emphasized that Russia will not remain passive in response to threats that are believed to arise from increased military activity by the EU.
"We build our policy exclusively based on ensuring national interests," - noted the Russian Foreign Ministry. Analysts believe that such statements could exacerbate the already tense relations between Russia and EU countries, provoking a new wave of confrontation.
