
The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, and the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, agreed during a phone conversation to maintain regular contact. This includes preparations for a possible meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Both parties committed to keeping communication channels open to address the accumulated issues in bilateral relations. In particular, they seek to "eliminate unilateral obstacles inherited from the previous U.S. Administration that hinder mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, economy, and investment," the Russian Foreign Ministry noted in a statement.
Additionally, they agreed to convene a meeting of experts in the near future to outline specific measures aimed at resolving the operational challenges faced by their diplomatic missions in each other's countries.
Regarding collaboration on urgent international issues, Lavrov and Rubio expressed their willingness to work together on the Ukrainian crisis, the Palestinian situation, and overall stability in the Middle East and other regions.
In a joint statement, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to act in accordance with the framework established by their presidents. They promised joint efforts to revive a mutually respectful dialogue between the two nations.
