The Moscow court fined the American company Google a record amount - 2.5 billion dollars. The decision was made as part of a case regarding violations of antitrust legislation. According to Russian authorities, Google abused its dominant position in the mobile device market with the pre-installed Android operating system, limiting the installation of its applications and restricting competition.
"The decision of the Moscow arbitration court will be appealed, since the fine is considered unjustified," stated a Google representative in Russia. The company also noted that it will continue to cooperate with Russian authorities in order to comply with legislation.
This is not the first case where American IT giants fall under antitrust legislation in Russia. Earlier, Facebook had already been fined for violating data protection laws of Russian citizens on the territory of the Russian Federation.
