With three times the recommended weight for a healthy cat, Crumbs was transferred to a clinic specialized in animal obesity reduction in Russia.
At the veterinary center, Crumbs started a treatment that included a low-calorie diet and a tailored physical activity program, such as hydrotherapy. Despite the progress, he developed sudden respiratory complications last Saturday and was quickly taken in for intensive care. Hours later, he passed away without an official diagnosis, but veterinarians found growths in his spleen and metastasis, suggesting that his overweight condition may have hidden health problems.
Ekaterina Bedakova, a rehabilitation specialist and caregiver for Crumbs, constantly shared his progress online. Crumbs, also known as Kroshik, gained worldwide fame for his weight of nearly 18 kilograms and his touching life story. His death has generated a wave of sadness in the online community, where thousands of followers closely monitored his progress.
