When the police arrived to search the stolen car, they found signs of forced entry and a damaged ignition key. However, after questioning the husband, officers began to suspect he was not telling the truth. A criminal case was brought against him under Article 306 («Intentional false report») of the Russian Criminal Code, and he faces up to two years in prison and a travel ban. The man, who had a clean criminal record, now faces the risk of prison due to this ruse. Later, she called again to report that the car had been found on Otdeya Island in Krasnoyarsk.
